Hi!

I have been messing with Zoo Tycoon 1 for the first time in a long time. I do not consider myself much of a designer and am only just now really learning how to edit without APE.

I have always wanted a Jurassic Park Pack for ZT1 and a while ago began work on one. Here's a screenshot of an earlier version. I am currently redoing it from the ground up, though ti will remain similar -- all animals will have the same biome/terrain requirements and be recolors of existing animals unless I learn how to animate models any time soon. I'm not sure how many animals it will contain yet. The only object I really plan on right now is a Jurassic Park Gate that could probably use some rotation fixing which I'll attempt soon.

I have a number of old ZT1 projects that have been in development for years I would like to complete and release but I am often busy with school and will likely be remaking many of them with their UCA'S. I will probably release them here now as I no longer manage my older site.

If anyone would like to collaborate or test I'd be happy to talk.

Those early graphics look great, JVM. I do hope you will continue with your ZT1 & 2 projects. I can't make animals, but hopefully someone who can might like to work with you. Keep us posted on your progress, and best of luck with school.

Thanks, savannahjan!

I'm blowing the dust off to bring this thread back into business. Since I've been trying to figure out ZT Studio as well as editing UCA files from scratch, all without APE, I decided to restart the JP project. Here's my current test for the JP Rex female, but still figuring things out and might alter the shade yet. The male will be more greenish reflecting current film canon.

I'm hoping to go back and remake all of my previous projects, released and unreleased, using these new methods

It's been a long time, Tek, but I've been back at work, and I've mostly streamlined the process (for myself) to creating new UCA's afresh, with thanks to Jordan's tutorial and Sundance's Guide and and am slowly getting used to ZT Studio, which is a very useful program, and I'm back restarting and updating the old zt1 recolor projects that have cluttered my folder, some for over a decade now - wow!!

Can you spot the new animal in this image? I've been trying hard to make sure it is fully compatible with the original ingame Siberian Tiger...

Spoiler

It's an updated and virtually remade version of the White Siberian Tiger I once released at Zoo Admin. I used the same code so it will overwrite, but it is more efficient now - with a new uca, a custom-written zoopedia entry, and linking to the ingame White tiger's animations, leading to a reduced file size for the final file. The Siberian tigers still complain about them though! :)

Although the ingame Asian Elephant probably represents the same subspecies I realize now, the Indian Elephant has been a fun creation because I love elephants! In addition to the tropical rainforest habitat, they like some savannah, sand, and kherji trees, making them relatively demanding when it comes to terrain types! I'm still tweaking the stats, and might make a palette adjustment, but this guy might finally be ready for release relatively soon. Like the tiger above, this is one of my oldest projects, dating back around twelve years.

RightEyElash once released a West African Leopard at his site Zookapi, adding a predator to the African rainforest. He later removed the animal from his site as he felt it was not up to his standard, and unlike the Guanaco which he felt similarly about, this one did not survive; so I have created my own version, a simple stat change of the ingame African Leopard to use the African rainforest. Just needs an icon and plaque.

Another mystery animal, intended to be compatible with the ingame Orangutan. In this example, I used water to create a moat 'separating' two spacious exhibits for each animal to test the suitability for each. I am still trying to recolor it correctly, but have already adjusted so male and female animals are the same size.

Spoiler

Having learned that the San Diego Zoo and a few other places have kept orangutan alongside other gibbon species, and feeling the Rope Swing was a much more appropriate toy for such an animal than the climbing bars assigned to the gorilla and chimpanzee, I have been eager to make a gibbon from the ingame orangutan for some time. I have no yet determined which subspecies they will represent.

I also have resumed work on the JP Tyrannosaurus detailed above, but as covered elsewhere on Tek, I'm having a lot of trouble nailing down the process for making animals dimorphic...

Hi again, it has been a while.

I took a long break from zt1 after running into some problems with the projects I have been working on, but I have been back at work trying to fix things... I cannot seem to recolor the orangutan  or sawfish to save my life, had trouble splitting the graphics and pals for the male and female T-rex, and the sand tiger shark and metricanthasaurs don't want to show up in the menu... ucachecker is reporting no problems. I still have many old projects to update but it has been putting me off to keep running into these problems. The metricanthasaurus I coded yesterday, not showing.... but some of my old dinosaurs made in APE still show ingame at least.

Is anyone experienced willing to take a look at these to see what I may be doing wrong?

Which programs are you using and what version?

Especially if you are using APE. For that you should have the latest http://www.ztcdd.org/DD/DownloadFiles/ZTABC/APExp3-2.zip

Have you read Sundances Editing Guide from ZKL?  http://www.lunamanar.com/zklounge/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=116

I am following similar procedures as in the 2019 post -- I am using Jordan and Sundance's guides for info on uca editing, although I think I know enough to code it by myself now for the first run. (To test the animal) before making changes to location, etc. I haven't used ZT Studio in a little while but I was using it a lot in 2019-20 working on some animals and intend to use it again. I have tried to avoid APE in any form to motivate myself to keep working at ucas.

These are two recent projects - green sawfish and metricanthaaurus. The metri will not show up in menu at all, the sawfish shows up ingame fine but refuses to be recolored and crashes zookeeper recommendations. In both cases I made no real intentional changes from the base animals but cost and I think I changed a location on the metri, but I'm not sure that should cause this problem?

On the other hand, some of my other animals are functioning fine, like the Indian elephant and White siberian tiger. I am basically ready to release them in the near future.
