To resolve a couple points of dispute here, I looked at the mermaid's AI file, unedited, what you'd find in the game.

 

The babies look the same because male, female and baby mermaids all take their animations from the female. No others exist.

 

Also, without any cheating (assuming you have both genders) they will breed. The file reads:

cReproductionChance = 2

cReproductionInterval = 3240

 

The thing keeping them from breeding would be their very high Happiness threshold. The potential parents need to have happiness ratings of 98 to breed.

 

To answer the mermaids/mermen question, they could be recolored but they would look rather odd. Either anatomical adjustments or recoloring the torso would both mean manual editing of each individual frame. :JC_see_stars:

Well this is a new one on me, Lam. I have never gotten the "gave birth" message, so that's good to know. Someone could always make decrepit old Mermaid Man from Spongebob, now wouldn't that be a hoot! :laugh:

So, if ypu use the statue method and make them, happy they will bred?, so no files we need to be downloaded or changed?

I have to agree with Lam. My mermaids have always reproduced in my zoos, to the point the tank would get over crowded with them and I have to sell them off.

Actually, I shall have to correct myself on the method used. I remember now that I used the free form unlock which places a mermaid in the adoption panel - then you can adopt a male and a female (they still both look like females) and they will have babies. Sorry for the misdirection.

Luckily the mermaid mermale problem got dealt with by John However for the current contest I would like to adopt the mermaid from the animal menu
