Stitchingmom Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 So I was cruising along with 7zip, and then the program started extracting to a file for each .ztd instead of the combined animals, objects, etc. I am also getting .cfgs outside the folders. Alternatively, it moves from all the selected files and chooses one .ztd file only to open. Anybody know what's going on?
Fern Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 I usually do things by type so buildings together, fences together, etc. Both those have cfg files. Janes buildings all do as she used ai files whereas now new buildings are done with ucb files which do not need cfgs. cfgs are also used for the items a building sells. So when you open a building you get if it sells things: freeform folder items folder objects folder scenery folder building cfg (bldg) (if old or Janes) items-**** .cfg (whatever item is being sold) Fences have this: freeform folder fences folder fences-*****.cfg Whatever you do, do NOT try merging hacks into any combined files you might make. Hope this helps.
Fern Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 From Jay: I cannot tell from the post what is being seen. So I am assuming folder names besides "animals", "objects", "scenery", "freeform", "items", "fences", and "paths" are being seen. By default, when attempting to extract more than 1 file, 7-zip extracts each ".ztd" or ".zip" to its own folder. So I have to assume either step 7 or step 8 was not done correctly from my 'Combining ".ztd" Files Using 7-zip' guide. Step 7 says to click "Extract files...". If 'Extract to "*\"' is clicked instead, that "*" means 7-zip will extract each to its own folder. If is important to click "Extract files..." and not 'Extract to "*\"'. Step 8 says 'In the "Extract" window that appears, change what is in the "Extract to" box to "C:\2compress"'. By default, that "Extract" window includes "*\" in the "Extract to" box. So again, that "*" means 7-zip will extract each to its own folder. So again, it is important to change what is in the "Extract to" box to "C:\2compress", and not have any "*".
Stitchingmom Posted August 12, 2025 Author Posted August 12, 2025 Thank you both! I switched to WinRar and have had no further issues, and I think the newest version may compress even more than 7zip. I found WinRar much easier to use. I was able to fit every single file I wanted.
(Admin)Cricket Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 WinRar is my fave! I find it quite easy to use. When I first tried to learn to combine files, I was using WinZip. Then I discovered WinRar. I use it daily. 1
