Guest Aragorn Girl Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Hi everyone, I was just playing my brand new Zoo Tycoon 2 and doing the scenario where you have 12 different African animals, and put in a couple of Nile Monitors. All seemed to be going well, Mrs Monitor was pregnant, they were well looked after, when all of a sudden I got this message that Mrs Monitor been attacked and killed. :whoa: When I went to have a look, there was Mr Monitor happily munching from a ribcage - eep! Now I'm all for a bit of realism, but that was a bit of a shock. Is there any way of telling which of your animals are likely to eat their own kind? I looked in the info for the Nile monitors and saw that they eat other lizards, but it wasn't really specific about what kind. Anyway I hope I've posted this in the right forum, I had a hunt around and couldn't find anything related to this topic
dinorhino Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Some animals will attack and kill each other, and when an animal dies, a rib-cage is left behind. It's treated the same as a normal artificial rib-cage after that: the animal now sees it as a food-source rather than an animal.
(Trustee)genkicoll Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Any carnivore in the game is likely to kill its own kind if it gets unhappy for any reason. You can actually have carnivores and herbivores living happily in the same exhibit, you just have to be absolutely sure that the carnivores don't get mad about anything, or no more herbivores! I like to have grizzlies, moose and red pandas together in a mixed exhibit, but if there's too much poo (for instance), the grizzlies will start killing. If you're watching the exhibit, it's really obvious when the animals go into "stalk" mode. Just pick them up and put them back down until there's no more "stalking moose 1" message, then hurry and fix whatever it was that was making the animal(s) unhappy.
ape Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 They are mean little critters but really cool. They will resort to canniblism if they are starving (like if you forget to feed them or if your zookeepers can't reach them!) Happens to me all the time...
Guest Aragorn Girl Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Oh dear, I thought they were happy, but I guess I was off paying too much attention to my new bongos (they look so cool in zt2!) and that was the end of my poor female nile monitor. Never mind, it's a learning experience I guess. Thanks for all your help, everyone.
