Will I have to reinstall or can I just move folders?

I have read the several threads about managing and organizing files-very good advice, I do like lots of organization. But I had brain freeze when I installed ZT again after being off my computer. I have an old pc and have added an extra hard drive which is where I put everything but the MS files needed to run the pc.

I have a game downloads file and that is where I put all the causal games I play. Most every game will put itself in a separate folder when I download it but ZT just installed in the main folder so all the ZT folders are mixed in, alpha order, with all the other game folders.

Now, can I just move them all to a folder titled ZT so they will be together or do you know if this would mess things up and I will have to uninstall and reinstall and go through it that way?

I am nearly through all the scenarios again, to get everything unlocked and be on my way to just playing and would hate to lose my progress.

Do any of you know if this will work? Since the folders were all put in Game Downloads, will the ZT game find them if I put the one level deeper in their own folder?

Thanks very much for any advice-I couldn't believe there was no ZT folder. I didn't discover it until I had done over half the scenarios and was putting in some user objects I thought I had deleted when the pc was worked on.

What platform are you running - Vista, Windows XP, etc? And you are asking about the Main game folder - not just the user downloads?

If you want to save your scenarios and have to re-install, Zoo Tycoon 1 has a file called zoo.ini

and it is found in the main Zoo Tycoon folder (my location is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon since I run Windows XP). This is a configuration file that contains where you are on the scenarios & what has been ulockec. I have modified mine to look elsewhere in the Zoo Tycoon Folder for user downloads so I always try to save a copy somewhere (both original & modified).

Don't know about moving the game files into new folder. You may be able to move the game folder & change the path on the start-up shortcut...but that is something I have not tried.

There again, this may all depend on what version of Microsoft you are using....

Maybe some of the more experienced members have an solution..?

The easiest thing to do is to uninstall and reinstall your game.

Things to save in a safe place:

Screenshots folder

dlupdates folder

zoo.ini

Saved Games folder

Your zoo.ini is what keeps track of the scenarios you've won, so be sure to overwrite the new file with your old one when you reinstall ^__^

Genki is right about what to save but when you reinstall be sure to leave the install directory as it is and just change the drive letter so it will install into its own folder. - provided your OS is XP if you have another OS I don't know if it is the same or not. Also, leave Microsoft Games/Zoo Tycoon at the end of the install directory path so it will install into its own folder. Then copy/paste the zoo.ini file that you nsaved elsewhere into the main zoo tycoon folder and overwrite so you will still have all your scenarios done. There is another way to do this depending on how pc literate you are, if you think you want to try it or need more help just PM me and I will help as much as I can!
