neutral foliage

I see there is a pack with all neutral foliage combined. this is terrific but how do you tell if it's a neutral one or not or do you not have any other foliage in your folder for your zoo? how do you handle this?

My brain is not too good at holding on to info, so I have trouble remembering which ones are and aren't neutral. When I'm building, say for a contest, the foliage is finite, so after I get the exhibit built and at maximum suitability, I start to add in, one by one, different flowers or grasses or such to see if I get a frowny face, or even a smiley face. If the animals don't react, the item is neutral and I can add it with abandon. If they frown and I really want to use it anyway, I close up one whole square in the exhibit where I want the item with the invisible fence. If the suitability changes due to that one square of terrain, I adjust by chaning some other square in the exhibit, getting it back to as high as possible. Then I can put that offending bit of foliage or decor or scenery or whatever in the exhibit within that one square.

 

There are more technical ways to find out, but I just give this test when I start building and I then know what is and isn't neutral. Also, if a foliage item appears toward the end of your foliage menu, it is almost always not neutral, like around the square flower beds and topiaries. That area of the menu if where the decor/scenery type foliage is located.

Looking at it ingame it looks like they appear in the menu after "Desert" and before "Aquatic"

Thank you both. I had not thought about enclosing one square so I'll have to try that. I do watch for the faces to see what is what. perhaps in future there could be a white or red dot in the center of the menu photo for items that are neutral. I guess I can add that whole neutral pack and it should appear in that place in the menu. I'll give it a try as I know it is combined and I can't pick and choose which I want. we'll see :)

 

I just installed the combined neutral pack from A1 and they are all marked with red stars and the mouseover shows them as "name neutral" super!

sorry fern, my brain is overloaded it seems. its the All Foliage Combined by Jane right here. I've been looking at so many downloads and I must have just looked at an A1 thing. the pictures appear toward the end of the list and all have red stars.
