Jay being Jay decided to see if he could get the animal to still be researchable without it being a hack. All the ingame researchable animals and buildings are hacks which can lead to conflicts when a user made one is done. However for both the donation and the research the animal has to have a string id and be in a dll.

Giving user made animals is not a good idea - only because there are a limited amount of ids available and we ran out once. Jane had a large amount of id sets and found out how easy it is to use them all up which is why she redid all her shelters to use the one set of ids, so she could reuse the others for new buildings.

Here is what Jay said when I asked him:

Jay: The optional donation concerning the Asiatic Lion in Jungle Junk is the second part of what I said in my previous post. It is a one-time donation given as an award when the first baby of the Asiatic Lion occurs. To make it work, the animal needs to have a ".dll" ID number. Since the award only occurs once, it is usually not worth it to make an animal use a ".dll" ID number just for the purpose of a one-time donation. In the case of the Asiatic Lion, it has a ".dll" ID number so that it can be optionally researched. When Jeff created the Asiatic Lion, he had it needing to be researched, although his version was a hack. I updated it so that it is not a hack and so that the research is optional.

I do not think that animal needs .dll file to be chosen as guest´s favourite.

Here is a guest that is really into my common pheasant, while none of my animals has .dll. Also, I have problem to find guest that likes some ingame animal, because I have nearly all animals from Hendrix, Khaydar, Borsato, MSC3323, Serpyderpy, Taz, Vondell, Wolverale12, etc. in my updates folder, so choosing user-made animal as guest´s favourite isn´t something that rare.

It needs the dll if it is a researched animal which that Jungle Junk animal was and if you use one of the versions in the zip it still is.

I always liked that the game chooses favourite animal from all animals - user and official.

So if I want animal to generate donations, it has to be researched one?

I do not understand it all of what Jay said but the explanation will be in what he wrote.

I think that we´re mixing two types of donations - one that you get only once, when researched animal breeds (10k or 50k for panda), and general donations that guests give to their favourite animal if they see it.

General donations work for user-made animals (I checked), but according to Fountain, they generate them less than ingame animals.

That I haven´t checked (but I think it depends on attractiveness of the animal).

 

Maybe Fountain compares my fishes with ingame Marine Mania animals? My fishes are quite attractive, but far from attractiveness of ingame Marine Mania animals, that often exceeds attractiveness of dinosaurs.

Very little aquarium, with Tanganyikan fishes. I think this may be released just as a part of my African aquarium, but I leave that to Fern to decide. These fishes need different environment than my other African fish, with a lot of rocks and minimum foliage.

 

Animals:

Tanganyikan Spiny Eel, Mbu Pufferfish, Giant Cichlid

Just bat-eared, corsac, cape, gray and kit coming in a week or so.
