Hawkkeye666 Posted September 7, 2021 Author Posted September 7, 2021 Some animals I think should have been made for ZT1 a long ago. Some pretty iconic, I´d say. Animals: Black-Backed Jackal, Golden Jackal, Dhole, Dingo And the next pack... Will be monke. Artistic rendition of members of this forum after reading the last sentence: https://tenor.com/view/yes-celebrate-cheer-avatar-nick-gif-7445488 EDIT: and I have two questions, I would like to hear your opinion on... 1.) what food for flamingoes? From ingame foods, of course. 2.) compatibility of black oystercatcher with elephant seal. Yay, or nay? *** files removed 20210907 1 2
mjmannella Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 1. Certainly not hay like the vanilla flamingos . My preliminary research found that flamingos will filter feed for Algae, fish, mollusks, plankton, seeds, shrimp, and vascular plants. I think insectivore chow, fish, and urchins are the best options given this information. 2. I'd be okay with it, though that may mean no tanks for elephant seals.

I am thinking about insect chow too, but... There is James´ Flamingo that eats mostly diatoms and can catch even large microbes. So... Grass and branches because mostly herbivore? That would be similarly stupid as hay. So... I think there are 2 options for other flamingoes - insect chow for all, or just let them all eat hay as in original game (this one I do not like). But what with James´? Yep, no tank for that combination. But you can put them into separate exhibits, if you want both of them and tank for seals. I think this compatibility would work in real zoo - I could not find any references to elephant seals eating bird, and oystercatchers seem too small for them to be interested. Yep, they can roll over them, but in big exhibit with places where birds can go and seals do not this would work. I am more concerned about depth of tank - seal are swimming mostly submerged, but oystercatchers are wading. But I made goliath heron compatible with hippos, with same mixture of wading bird and swimming animal, and it looks very good.
Zoological Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 I know you probably get this a lot Hawkeye, but, you truly are a godsend to people who still play Zoo Tycoon 1 with your mods/downloads. I honestly have enjoyed your animals a lot and it helps spice up the variety of custom ones from the original game ones. Also, a pack of monkeys? I am most intrigued. Any possibility of New World monkeys, like tamarins, marmosets and such for the future considered? 1 2

I'm not sure if grass is a good analogue for diatoms, though you could go with the more ambiguous and dinosaurian "herbivore chow". I feel like urchins might work better contextually, though it would be very odd conceptionally. The only other option I can think of would be hedging your bets that land-placed sea grass doesn't look too weird.
Fern Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 I switched msc3323s flamingo food from hay to fish. Thought that was a better choice of limited choices. Have downloaded hawkkeyes canids.ZTD As for not many been done I suggest you look through http://www.ztcdd.org/DD/index.php?board=30.0 and http://www.ztcdd.org/DD/index.php?board=15.0 They just show the ones I have done posts for there are still posts out back there. Admittedly most are recolours. That goes for all the sections I have out in view there.

Tamarins and marmosets are very small, so I am going to make only the biggest ones (and... let´s say that lion tamarin look pretty good ingame inspite of small size). But there will be howlers, night monke, capuchin, saki... 19 hours ago, mjmannella said: I'm not sure if grass is a good analogue for diatoms, though you could go with the more ambiguous and dinosaurian "herbivore chow". That sea grass idea is interesting, I must try it, but I think it won´t work ingame (the zookeeper wouldn´t place sea grass because it is meant to be placed into tank, but I have to try it). Actually, urchins look really good placed into exhibit, because of bright colour that just suits the flamingoes food source, but... They´re still urchins. Hard-shelled invertebrates, so no much of a flamingo thing. If not, I think that insect chow would be the best option for all, but I am still open to ideas. 15 hours ago, Fern said: I switched msc3323s flamingo food from hay to fish. But I think insect chow or urchins would be a little better, I use it as invertebrate prey (same as I use krill as invertebrate prey for fishes). I was talking about new models, not recolours. Of course there are many versions of dingoes, dholes and jackals around, they are such iconic animals. Quite strange that just wolves and african wild dogs made it ingame. 1
Hawkkeye666 Posted September 8, 2021 Author Posted September 8, 2021 And I tried to use aquatic food placed in exhibit, not tank, and it works. I was quite surprised. But it looks weird, because aquatic food is animated. 3
Fern Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 I will make sure it is tested by Jay before release as JohnT used MM food for something and it has caused problems. I just can't remember offhand what they were.
