Creating downloads for Zoo Tycoon 1

Velociraptor

Recommended Posts

Hi! Im a huge fan of ZT1 and ZT2, currently i only own ZT1 because i lost my ZT2 discs years ago, i decided to create my own mods for the game. I would like to start with something easy, like recolors of the items already in-game etc. Could you help me out please? Where can i find some kind of guide about this?

You may want to start with checking out some tutorials from this section:
Phoenix University

When I design, I use the following tools:

APExp3.2

Zoot (latest version)

WinRar

graphics program (I use Corel PaintShop Pro X8)

WinHex (needed for making paths)

Hopefully, I didn't leave any out.

When you are ready to start, pick a small project and I can walk you through it, if you'd like.  There are other designers that may be willing to help as well.  :jump1:

Winhex is not needed for paths although you can do them that way. You can completely make paths in Zoot.

If you want a free graphics program there is Gimp.

I've always done them this way.  Haven't yet tried the Zoot method.

Both.  I use an existing decorative fence whose rotations I think are close to the new fence.  I use WinHex to change the IDs then use Zoot to replace the images.

If you plan on creating custom content, you might want to start a topic here: https://zootekphoenix.com/forums/forum/22-current-projects-for-zt1/

I've learned things from reading other people's project topics and found useful information on my own thread when I came back to modding after many years of rest. People on this forum are so very helpful. :)

Have fun!
