Rather than bring the bridges down to the water level when they cross, I raised them to form a series of weirs. I managed to incorporate one weir into the hippo exhibit

Lions facing ligers & leopards facing cheetahs across a canal. To keep the weir effect going in some places the water runs along the top of an embankment.

As the guest move from area to area the theme changes with foliage more suitable for each animal. The paths & bridges change too.
