fountain Posted August 4, 2012 Author Posted August 4, 2012 Interesting experience yesterday... I was surprised to see a man walking by my window, then recognized his companion. I was listening to a radio discussion of PA's new requirement of voter ID pictures and hadn't noticed the semi-functional doorbell. I went outside and spent 1-1/2 hours reviewing and asking questions of a contractor who is bidding on excavation work. When I came back in, I thought i had paused my ZT game. :sFun_doh2: I had gained 3 benefactors. Guest numbers were down to 826. Funds dropped from $300K to $99K. Piles of droppings and dirty tanks from 389 total animals. And angry, overcrowded animals. Pause button!!! Took me 20 minutes real time to sell animals, move keepers and maintenance to clean up the tanks and exhibits and so many fence sections fixed. I also noticed guests exploring less popular exhibits. I added some of the Puerto Rico foliage to the Galapagos areas and watched a guest wander back and forth perhaps confused by the diagonal layout of the exhibits. The animals are happier: 98% Guests: 94% Added 1 more keeper and funds are back to the $300K range.
LadyZookeeperNY Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Hi Fountain, I am loving your Bird Zoo. Very colorful, well decorated, excellent exhibits ... I SO want to see a real life zoo done this well. Great Job!! Keep Building!
fountain Posted August 5, 2012 Author Posted August 5, 2012 Quick overviews of Central & S Amer petal King Crab, Hammerhead shark, Tocans Aussie & Africa center area I'm learning techniques for within exhibit layout while having fun with the observation areas & paths.
(Trustee)ZooGrammy Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 I love the umbrella observations all along the route. It looks so inviting.
Firehawke Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I love the latest pics, especially the last one! I hate it when the pause button doesn't get pushed like I think it does. Glad you were able to get it cleaned up!
fountain Posted August 7, 2012 Author Posted August 7, 2012 Ran into severe financial problem. Upside is when I took down some ornamental fencing I discovered I had blocked off a path in one of petals which explain why no one was visiting the popular mute swans. I eventually closed down and sold off almost everything in one unpopular petal. With that money I improved a couple exhibits. I also fired 2 maintenance and 2 now not needed keepers. Making lemonade from my sour face. Then I won the Zoo of the Year Award and possibly another award. Now have much money and plan to put in more moneymaking bird and prey buildings and attractions so i can rebuild and finish the petals. Removing some of the trees makes it easier to see exhibits with birds-eye-view. Expect to post new pix next week.
