Rasun37 Posted January 12, 2013 Author Posted January 12, 2013 A small little bird, the Hoopoe, I managed to spot flying low to the ground in search of insect food! These birds find their migration homes all across Europe, however a large population make their permanent homes near the Gambia and surrounding locations.
Rasun37 Posted January 12, 2013 Author Posted January 12, 2013 As the new morning arrives, I must say goodbye to Gambia, and I take a small boat upriver until we reach the source of the Gambia where we'll enter Mali and sail up the Niger River! See you then!
(Admin)Savannahjan Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Love the hoopoe! Nice shots, so you are on to your next destination. Happy sailing.
Firehawke Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Wonderful job!!! I love the river! Can't wait to see more pics! Where's the hoopoe from???
Rasun37 Posted January 14, 2013 Author Posted January 14, 2013 Thanks!! Will have the other pictures up soon! Firehawke, the Hoopoe is from the awesome user-made expansion European Expeditions. Its available somewhere, I just can't remember where I got it, but I'm sure a good ol' google search can help with that! :)

Rasun37 Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 hello! The trip has been wonderful so far, and my days along the Niger were wonderful! Here are some shots of the riverside! Quite the forest along its banks! It was tough to travel through to see the wildlife beyond!
Rasun37 Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 A muddy African Buffalo surprised me as the first animal on this location. I heard a few more nearby and decided to push on through the forest.
Rasun37 Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 Pushing through the brush, and upon a hill I came upon the beautiful area where the lush forest ended and a vast grassy area was exposed with dunes of the Sahara behind. A magnificent second sight got my heart beating. I encountered a solitary male African Bush Elephant. It was truly a blessing to see such an endangered and magnificent elephant unharmed by poachers that lurk the african plains to slaughter these creatures only for their tusks. I managed to take a load of shots, a few of which shown here, before having to move on.
