(Admin)Cricket Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 Too funny!! My oldest daughter shares your disdain for those "cobra chickens". She had to fight them off at one of her jobs. She's not a fan. She's gonna love that name tho'. My youngest daughter loves them and calls them "fluff butts". Years ago, we used to walk the canal here in Indy and feed those "cobra chickens". If you have food to offer, they tend to be a little nicer ... if you're lucky. 3
HeatherL Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 The cobra chickens at the park were a good 100 feet away when they came after us en mass. And there were more than a hundred of them. I don't think food would have been enough to distract them at that point. The locals told me no one goes to the park during the goose migrations. If the dogs hadn't been leashed, I'm pretty sure they would have tripped me as a sacrifice to the cobra chicken gods. 3

I'd imagine it would take a very long time to make all of your birds tankable and I understand why they wouldn't be 'compatible' for lack of a better word) I would be able to make tankable waterfowl now, but I don´t want to remake all the ones I´ve made. That would be too much work. And only waterfowl would look good tankable, wading birds would look weird. It's kind of my fault in the first place for making such a tiny aviary, but I wanted to mention it regardless. I sell off their babies frequently to keep up with them. They´re meant to be good breeders, they´re domestic after all. I think I changed cobra breeding rate once, but I´ll check it again. I don´t have much time now for ZT, but here is reworked reticulated giraffe, one of upcoming ungulates: I am also thinking about the compatibility of west African giraffe. For now, it´s compatible with Borsato´s Defassa waterbuck, my giant eland, Bohor reedbuck, black crowned crane and Pousargues´s mongoose - savannah, with a lot of sand and water (west African giraffes migrate from Niger River valley to dry areas and back). But, maybe, compatibility with Taz´s Addax (with giraffe liking more savannah trees than desert trees) would be more appropriate? Here are pictures of both giraffe paddocks, one with Defassa waterbuck compatibility, the second one with addax compatibility: You may write which one you prefer. 1
(Designer)Z.Z. Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 I like the one with the Umbrella Thorn and the Palm Trees. In the exhibit in the upper left there is meat chow, wouldnt a carnivore kill the birds? 1

(Designer)Z.Z. Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Oh wow, I didnt know they were omnivores! Very cool :)

Very cool :) They´re carnivores, only rarely eating something else than meat or insect. They can be quite vicious, especially when human-raised. I read story from zookeeper about hand-raised female that killed her mate, and bit off an eye of a marabou stork in exhibit next to hers. 1
fountain Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Yes, Goosifer! My mother raised African? Geese in our backyard. Great alarms if someone walked into the backyard. Most would be sent to a butcher then a grocer for Thanksgiving. I've been attacked, bit, and thumped by their wings leaving bruises. I was just herding to fresh grass, not trying to catch them. You forgot the loud hissing during the wing-spread. Usually head down they, especially the ganders, as come at you. You're lucky they didn't plant a flag and stay. Glad you had peace, I hope, after feathered threat left. 3

fountain Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 I like the Defassa waterbuck compatible because of the opportunity to exhibit less familiar animals together. It looks more natural. 1
